As your Pet Ages
Maggie Didn't Live Forever
I've been saying for years how Maggie promised me she would live forever. She overcame several conditions and lived with several others doing her best to keep her promise.
Her liver had been failing for years, we just never told her so she kept being her. She turned grey and needed help up steps but she was always there at your feet. She took her medicine like a champ (thank goodness for pill pockets). Her kidneys began failing recently and she could no longer compensate for the liver disease allowing toxins to affect her brain.
The family decided it was time to release her from her promise and allow her to go peacefully and not suffer. We planned to euthanize Maggie on Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at noon. Friday night Ashley prayed that she would pass in her sleep. Maggie had a very active night doing very well. I was so pleased that her last night was comfortable.
As rare as it is, Maggie passed away on her own Saturday morning between 2 and 4 am. She was in the exact position as I placed her. I'm sure she felt nothing and it shows what a spectacular girl she was. She even spared us from having to put her to sleep.
She was with us for over 15 of our 17 years in Wellington. Thankfully her breeder wanted the runt or we would have never had our Maggie. She was a typical daschund taking eight months to housebreak her. What she lacked in brains she made up in personality and love. She has set the bar very high for all future Planco pets.
We will take solace that she never suffered. We will never forget her and will never replace her.

Dear Dr. Planco,
We just want to "thank you" for going above and beyond last night with our pet emergency. We don't know what we would have done if you had turned your back on us just because it was a Sunday evening and the fact that we had never even been a patient of yours yet.
For your readers a little insight on what happened. About 6 weeks ago we relocated to this area not knowing a sole or having a vet yet for our 2 dogs. We had taken them out for their walks and came home and gave them their usual 2 treats. My husband noticed something strange with the oldest dog and went to check on her and she has passed away. With no where to turn I called Dr Planco's emergency phone and he told us to meet him at the office in 10 minutes. His professionalism and sympathy to the situation was like none other. He made a very sad situation bearable and we will be a patient of his as long as we have pets.
Thanks again for the kind of Doctor that you obviously are!
